Theory by Theo on 27/09/2024
After the anticipated release of the Minato manga. The community asked various questions and came into a speculative analysis of the Uzumaki Clan’s past and the legacy it has left behind. This is a theory discussing their rise, peak and eventual fall. This goes into the valley of speculation and a bit of head canon. However the purpose is to directly correlate and connect Naruto lore and Boruto lore together. Shout out to Azul and Faytii for the supporting tribute and idea set up.
Rise of the Uzumaki Clan: The Uzumaki Clan are direct descendants of Hagoromo Otsutsuki. They are closely related to Senju Clan but split off early forming their own unique lineage. Inheriting the massive chakra reserves Hagaromo and Ashura had. These Uzumaki quickly rose as a powerful unified civilization long before the rise of village nations and Feudal ownership. The Uzumaki have a rich history of jutsu and sealing abilities that helped them evolve as a warrior society. Given these attributes they are also called “Eddies” (Swirl wind) people. The true headquarters of the Uzumaki Clan remain a tad ambiguous and not much can be properly notated in history. But the home village is located in an island called the ‘Land of Whirlpools’ or Land of Eddies.
Peak of the Uzumaki Clan : The Uzumaki Clan was at It’s official peak during the Warring States Period. An era when all other Shinobi clans were fighting each other for dominance, power and territory. The Uzumakis progression is likely due to it’s geographic locations being isolated and devoid of war like oppressors. The Uzumaki Clan during this period were also geographic and archeological researchers, much of their known jutsus are from trial and error attempts, or actually recreations of previous jutsu or in this case potential ‘Shinjutsu’ that have been long gone. Which leads to speculate that this clan uncovered many Otsutsuki artifacts or historical data entries. Similar to the modern scientific ninja tool team.
Physiology : Key traits of an Uzumaki is red hair, large chakra pools, long lifespan, and the ability to use Adamantine Chains. These traits and qualities is what determine a genuine Uzumaki member. Due to their extended life span. Uzumakis also age much slower. By the time of Mito Uzumaki’s death she was at an age of 110 years. Just ten years after the extraction of Kurama unto Kushina Uzumaki. It is also proof of their strong endurance and resistance. Note that this might relate later to Code’s No Limiter Form.
Connecting Nue’s origin is complex. But according to Sasuke; Danzo acquired the knowledge on how to summon Nue via an ancient Otsutsuki scroll belonging to Kaguya herself. This scroll contained the information and science behind Nue’s existence. But most importantly how to bind Nue to an individual, creating a pseudo Sealing contract. In the graphic novel it was noted that that Danzo believed that the acquired scroll was from the archival ruins of a “lost clan”. Whether this is from the Uzumaki clan or another one entirely remains uncertain. However it is possible Uzumaki members may have had plans to create the first ever Jinchuriki to one of it’s members. Similar to Hagaromo Otsutsuki to the original Ten Tails. If it is Uzumaki in origin. Then it would also not be too far fetched to assume that the Uzumaki uncovered more Otsutsuki artifacts, such as the remains of Shibai Otsutsuki ect.
Uzumaki Chains : The Jutsu known as the Uzumaki ‘Adamantine Chains’ are binding chain suppressors created by the Uzumaki Clan to either hold down, seal, or crush their enemies. These chain are mimics of Hagaromo’s original Outer Path Chains. Like the Uzumaki Adamantine Chains the Outer Path Chains bind chakra and has the capability to pull in entire Tailed Beasts. It is exclusive to Rinnegan users, and thus is only reserved for a select few.
White Karma Theory : As noted by Amado there are two versions of Karma; Black and White. While both variations are powerful only the Black karma variant provides the full benefits of what Karma was originally intended to use. If Code is indeed an Uzumaki, it may explain why Code did not die from a failed Karmic integration. The physiology of the Uzumaki is the strongest and most resistant to outside forces, as shown with Mito Uzumaki’s and Kushina’s tolerance to a Tailed Beast extraction. Still able to live while other normal humans die within minutes to hours. Typical karma failure candidates die to the sheer strain of exposure to Karma, however the theory is that Code’s hypothetical Uzumaki genes are so tolerable to the Karma that it mutated said Karma into a White Karma.
The Uzumaki genes ironically canceling the Otsutsuki genetic drop off. Which the immune system would consider a threat. In an ironic twist of fate Code’s own genetics denied him to become an Otsutsuki vessel, saving him from the doomed fate of Karmic Reincarnation. Further consideration and possible evidence that the Uzumakis did indeed pose a threat to Isshiki’s plans for the future or any Otsutsuki threat. A possible hint as well is his No Limiters Form resembling Uzumakis when dispersing too much chakra. Developing the aged white hair. Final note on Code. Interestingly enough, Code slips into a dessert region that resembles where Roran is located in the Land of Winds. Right before he travels back into Isshiki’s dimension.
The Mystery of Roran : In the Naruto Movie ‘Lost Tower’ we have a glimpse of an ancient civilization known as “Roran”. Although the canocity of said movie remains questionable. It does show an interesting secret area not seen by both the anime and manga. In the far western slopes of the dessert lied the city of Roran. Inside the city there housed many denizens of the Land of Winds. Most interestingly, there are two layers of Roran, the modern city architecture which was created forty one years prior to the events of Boruto and the underground level. The underground layer is the original Roran and it’s original age remains a mystery.
However it is separate from the Land Hidden in the Sand as it’s own separate kingdom. Roran is situated above a unique source of energy coming from a tear from the earth. Known as the Ley Line or Ryūmyaku. An ancient source of power the city of Roran. The Ley Line is a primordial energy source coming from the core of the planet. And the life source of all living beings. If true then it would be exactly the energy the Juubi Seedlings feed off, according to Otsutsuki Clan’s way of cultivation.
This source of power would be of great importance to the Uzumaki Clan potentially. Researching planetary energy could greatly boost their sealing powers or other forbidden jutsus. Most curious are the rulers of Roran. The previous and last queen “Sara”; was a female with long dark red hair. Strikingly similar to other Uzumaki members and in the movie she is known as an individual with “powerful sealing powers”.
It is quite possible the Uzumaki Clan bulit an ancient settlement across the desert to research the Ley Line to further understand the unique energy Earth gives out. Sara and her daughter might possibly be descendants of this Uzumaki lineage sent into the desert for research. Which coincides with the Otsutsukis ability to feel planetary curvature wavelengths. In this case Earth being above “16”.
Uzumaki ties to the Death God : The Uzumaki Clan’s most forbidden power. ‘Reaper Death Seal’, this ability allows the user to summon the Grim Reaper or Shinigami as their final ally during battle. The visage of the Death God appears, and can only what the user can muster from his/her enemy. The price of said Jutsu is very steep and unforgiving as both the caster and the opponent are eaten by the Reaper and is doomed to suffer for “eternity” in “ceaseless combat”. This power is also a potential mimic of the Rinnegan’s ‘Human Path’ ability. However “Death” is a primordial and universal law that predates all life or known creation.
The Reaper is simply a small representation of said concept. And so not an original power. Due to the forbidden nature of the Death God jutsu, it’s very possible as well the Edo Tensei derives from the Uzumaki’s dark techniques. Adding further connections to the Uzumaki’s research with defying death or perhaps understanding the ‘Purelands’ better.
Downfall of the Uzumaki Clan: The downfall of the Uzumaki is noted to have been catastrophic in nature. The Land of Whirlpools was attacked by four of the five great Shinobi villages during the beginning of the Second Great Shinobi War. This included ; Stone, Mist, Sand and Cloud villages. All the listed villages banded together to destroy the Uzumaki Clan’s headquarters for good. Due to the supposed fear of the Uzumakis detaining all the Tailed Beasts for themselves only. The resulting attack left their lands in ruin and some surviving clansmen scattered throughout the lands. The after effect would be their sealing jutus weakening over time. Making the island of Whirlpools inhospitable due to the presence of escaped and dangerous monsters/creatures.
Possible Culprit: The Five Great Nations as powerful as they are fall under the rule of the Daimyos, feudalist lords that supercede the lands. Even above the five Great Kages. The Daimyos preform constant checks and balances throughout the lands funding or defunding certain smaller kingdoms if deemed fit to continue on. However due to the nature of village influence to the Feudal lords. The Daimyos are potentially vulnerable to espionage or geopolitical influence. The organization known as ‘Kara’ has long held political and scientific influence throughout shinobi history since the dawn of Ninshu. The leader of said organization is none other than the lost extraterrestrial Isshiki Otsutsuki.
Or in this case an alien wearing the flesh of a man, a monk named ‘Jigen’. Jigen being an Otsutsuki of course has several years of knowledge and experience. Especially in the ancient art of the Otsutsuki Clan methodologyof attaining power. Jigen’s main goal is to recreate the original Divine Tree that he and Kaguya Otsutsuki discovered on earth 2000 years prior. However Jigen being a witness to all of Shinobi history, more than likely made contact with several Uzumaki members and it is quiet possible the clan possessed a significant threat to inherit nature of the Otsutsuki Clan’s infamous Karma.
Jigen and Kara being so embedded into the government(s) may have played a hand into the conspiracy to destroy the Uzumaki Village. Jigen may have set a corrupt campaign to slander Uzumaki individuals as potentially dangerous usurpers. Which led to a potential bounty for all Uzumaki Clan members. These actions keep Isshiki Otsutsuki’s identity and presence anonymous, and insuring the organization known as Kara remains indirectly hands free from the stain of war and the conflict it brings, all the while it continues to pull strings. The connection between the Uzumaki vs Otsutsuki clan might be a potential future plot point later in the events of Boruto.
Surviving Members after the downfall: After the fall of the Uzumaki Clan. Many of their clansmen dispersed. How many survived remains unknown. Known and confirmed members include; Ashina Uzumaki, Mito Uzumaki, Nagato Uzumaki, Kushina Uzumaki, Karin Uzumaki, Naruto Uzumaki. However it is speculated that there were more members seen. As stated by Mito in the latest Minato Manga, the Uzumaki spread everywhere and are known for their red hair. Possible candidates would include ; Zansuru, Sara, Sara’s Daughter, Gaara, Rasa, Sasori Tayuya, and Code. Whether they are confirmed Uzumaki or Uzumaki blood descendants remains unclear but due to the nature of some of their abilities. They show signs of high chakra reserves (a crucial Uzumaki trait).

Potential Uzumaki
Final Legacy of the Uzumaki: The Uzumaki Clan has left a profound impact to Shinobi world. Thanks to their unique sealing abilities and longevity they have left numerous artifacts that could potentially be useful in the future of Boruto. The last thing to note is the last panels we have with Mito Uzumaki. Upon the final conversations spoken. Mito tells Kushina that love is the source of the Uzumaki seals. Notably the 8 Trigram Seal.
The Minato manga also notated the odd similarities between the twin vortexes. Minato had and the secondary title of the time skip.
In conclusion it is possible the Uzumakis still play an important role to the survival of not only the shinobi world but humanity. Their powers could potentially counter the threat of the Otsutsuki Clan. Their legacy now lives on in Boruto, the Child of Destiny.
Boruto. The one who will be the light at the end of the tunnel. Connecting both his shinobi and Otsutsuki lineage. For added references here are some Databook entries for those interested
